170 Cottage Street
Massachusetts
170 Cottage Street is a mixed-use affordable housing community in Chelsea, Massachusetts, poised to revitalize the neighborhood. Developed by Boston Financial’s longtime partner, The Neighborhood Developers, the community offers a combination of affordable rental housing and commercial space to address local housing needs and stimulate economic growth.
Strategically situated just one block from the Eastern Avenue Silver Line MBTA station, 170 Cottage Street provides convenient access to Boston’s South Station and the Seaport District. 170 Cottage Street is also adjacent to the Chelsea Greenway, offering residents convenient access to a multi-modal pedestrian and bike path. The development features spacious apartments to accommodate families, offering a much-needed housing option in the area.
Committed to serving vulnerable populations, 170 Cottage Street will include two homes specifically designed for individuals with disabilities and 16 homes prioritized for families who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of experiencing homelessness.
In addition to its social impact, 170 Cottage Street prioritizes sustainability. The project achieved Passive House Design Certification in 2023, ensuring it meets stringent energy efficiency standards, reduces its environmental footprint, and provides residents with a comfortable, healthy living environment.
The building will include 11 three-bedroom units, 43 two-bedroom units, and 12 one-bedroom units, as well as a community room, 72 below-ground parking spaces, bicycle storage, and more than 15,000 square feet of open space. The units will be rented to households earning up to 60% of the area median income ($89,050 for a four-person household) with 10 units reserved for households earning up to 50% of the area median income ($74,200 for a four-person household) and 18 units reserved for households earning up to 30% of the area median income ($44,520 for a four-person household).
