The Walker School Apartments in Taunton, Bristol County, MA is a 40-unit adaptive re-use of a former school for senior tenants. In total 16 units were created in the existing school space, and 24 new units were built in a newly constructed addition to create a total of 40 units in one, three-story, elevator-serviced building. The Walker Elementary School was originally constructed in 1895 and had been vacant for eight years prior to development. The project utilized a combination of Federal LIHTC, Federal Historic Tax Credits, Massachusetts State LIHTC and Massachusetts Historic Tax Credits in addition to a permanent loan from Mass Housing and soft loans from state and local lenders.

Social services including a part-time Resident Service Coordinator (“RSC”) from the subject’s management company, as well as partnerships with the Taunton Housing Authority, the Harbor Health Elder Service Plan (PACE), and Bristol Elder Services. The RSC will be on-site 12 hours per week and will coordinate with all partners and provide a monthly calendar of wellness, education, and enrichment programs for the residents.
